Album Of The Year- Yeah Yeah Yeah’s ‘It’s Blitz’
Anything that promised this unholy amount of yoak was always going to impress me, as an avid Salmonella fan. Thankfully the music surpassed the dizzying standards of the front cover and despite every single review consisting of ‘They’ve gone Electro! They’ve gone all electronic! There are synths! Gah! It’s like a circuit board of arpeggios attacking my pancreas!’ (bad journalism in other words) the truth was, in fact, the opposite. I’m not gonna deny the effects that the likes of ‘Heads Will Roll’ and ‘Dragon Queen’ have on my body (it’s like puberty all over again but with more headbanging), ‘It’s Blitz’ represents a change into a more orchestral Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Departing from the rustic-I-feel-like-I’m-in-Brokeback-Mountain-albeit-a-more-straight-version sounds of ‘Show Your Bones’ into the epic string-laden album highlights ‘Little Shadow’ and ‘Hysteric’, the band proved something that was a long time comin’. That they’re fucking good.
